One method for determining how much one language ‘sounds like’ another is by measuring the overlapping phonemes – the number of specific sounds they have in common. Click on a language to see how it compares to others by Jaccard similarity; the shorter the link, the larger the overlap! Different colors denote different language genera (dark blue indicates 'Other'). The birthplace of the language may be seen on the map below.
