Abstract

Emma B. Andrews was the mistress of one of the early excavators of the Valley of the Kings near Luxor, Egypt. Her diaries, written from 1889-1913, trace her journey down the Nile and place various historical figures at each point on the way.

Running Instructions

Each point on the map represents a date on which Emma wrote an entry in her travel journal. Hover over a point to see the date of the entry. Click a point to open a sidebar with information about the people mentioned in the entry, as well as the text of the entry (currently only available for earlier dates). Brushing over the timeline will increase the opacity of entries from that date range. Click a name in the legend along the right side to color entries red where that person was mentioned. Hitting the reset button will undo all selections and reset the map back to the Luxor area map.
